In the United States: the direct connection
In ChatGPT. Open Health in the sidebar, choose to connect and follow the steps on your iPhone, where you decide which categories to share. Apple Health can only be connected from the iOS app, although you can then ask from the web too (OpenAI, Health in ChatGPT).
In Claude. Ask it a health or fitness question from the iPhone app. If it has no access yet it asks, and you pick the data types on the iOS permission screen. It can read activity, workouts, vitals, body measurements, sleep and nutrition, but cannot write or change anything in Apple Health. You remove it under Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices (Anthropic, iOS apps).
If you wear a band or watch from another brand, that information only arrives if its app sends it to Apple Health. OpenAI warns that this varies by app and that some proprietary scores may not transfer.
In the UK, Europe and everywhere else
Both help pages limit these features to the United States today, so do not count on them here yet. That leaves two routes that do not depend on your country.
Pasting a summary. You copy a week of data and ask what you want. It is the simplest route and you control exactly what leaves your phone. The price is that it only knows what you paste, and doing it again and again gets tiring. To make it useful, give the dates and units: «HRV 42 ms» without saying it is SDNN invites mistakes, as the guide to HRV on Apple Watch explains.
An MCP connector. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard way for an assistant to use tools and data held in another service. You give it an address, sign in to that service, authorise it, and from then on the assistant asks for what it needs to answer you. This is the route for having your data in the conversation without pasting it each time.
What to check before connecting a service
- Who makes it. Anthropic warns that it does not verify these servers, and both Anthropic and OpenAI ask you to connect only the ones you trust. The risk they name is prompt injection: text hidden in the data that tries to steer the assistant.
- Whether it can write. Look at the tools it offers. Reading your data and being able to delete it are very different risks.
- How to cut it off. There should be a button to disconnect it, and it should work straight away.
- What the assistant's company does with your data. OpenAI says what is connected in Health does not train its models, but that sentence is about Health. With a custom connector, check the terms of your plan. Anthropic says Claude does not save health information to memory by default.
How it works with GoForIt
GoForIt has an MCP connector. It is not open to the public yet: the app has not been published, and what each option includes will be announced before opening. Inside the app it uses no AI model: it does not answer or advise on its own. The AI is the one you already use, and GoForIt only lets it read what you have authorised.
What it can read: your readiness for today with its reasons, the history, workouts with their sets, activities, meals and signals (sleep, vitals, measurements, how you feel). Because GoForIt gathers data from several sources, the assistant receives it already in order. Some external sources limit what can be shown to a third party, and those workouts arrive reduced to the minimum.
What it cannot do: change or delete anything. It can leave you a proposed plan, for instance from your trainer's PDF, looking up each exercise in the catalogue, but nothing changes in your account until you review and import it.
- In Claude: Customize › Connectors (or Settings › Connectors, depending on the version), then add a custom connector.
- Name: GoForIt. Address: https://api.goforit.day/mcp
- Press «Connect». GoForIt opens and tells you which application is asking and what it will be able to read. Press «Authorise».
- Then ask, for example: «How did I sleep this week?», «Why is my readiness low today?» or «How many chest sets have I done this month?».
The connection shows up on GoForIt's «AI assistants» screen, and disconnecting it stops the reading at once. We have tested it with Claude. Not with ChatGPT yet: it is built to connect the same way, but it depends on your plan and we do not call it working until we have tried it. GoForIt sends nothing to an AI on its own and does not use your data to train models, as its privacy policy says. What your assistant receives falls under that company's terms.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I connect Apple Health to ChatGPT outside the US?
- Not directly today: OpenAI says Health is available in the United States. You can paste a summary of your data into the chat or, depending on your plan, use an MCP connector.
- What about Claude?
- The direct Apple Health connection is also US only, in beta and on the Pro, Max or Ultra plans. Custom connectors are on every plan, and the free one allows one.
- Do I need to code to use an MCP connector?
- No, if the service has a sign-in: you paste an address, press connect and authorise. Developer tools use a token, but that is not the only route.
- Can my assistant change my data?
- It depends on what each service allows. Apple Health in Claude is read-only according to Anthropic. In GoForIt it cannot change or delete anything either, and a proposed plan is not applied until you import it.
