How to do it

Barbell isometric hold: exercise position

Barbell isometric hold

Static hold of a loaded bar with arms extended, focused on grip strength and forearm endurance.

Form. Set the bar at a safe height, take a firm overhand grip, stand tall and squeeze the bar without bending your elbows or holding your breath.

Common mistake. Using a load you cannot safely put down, shrugging the shoulders, bending the wrists, or swaying the trunk to hold longer.

The muscles listed are an editorial reference, not a measurement. Adjust the range and the load to what feels comfortable.
